Planning to get married? Before you walk down the aisle, you have to obtain first a marriage license. A marriage license is a document issued by the church or state, allowing or authorizing a couple to marry. Furthermore, if granted with a license, it does not mean that you and your partner are already married. It means that you may get married.
The date and place of marriage should be provided by the couples, along with the name of the person presiding the ceremony. The officiant should be registered with Vital Statistics (applicable for both religious and civil weddings).
Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
