Procedure
Apply via Agent
- Go to the nearest Access PEI Centers.
- Present the required documents.
- Fill out forms. (An application form is available online. Check the link below.)
- Pass accomplished forms.
- Pay corresponding fees through accredited payment systems.
- Present valid IDs (and authorization letter if necessary) in claiming/receiving the certificate.

Eligibility
- Person whose name appears on the certificate
- An authorized person (authorized in writing by the person named on the certificate) or the name of spouse of the person whose name appears in the certificate.
- A lawyer acting for the person whose name appears in the certificate (must have written authorization or proof of retainer).
- A court order
Fees
- Wallet size marriage certificate: $25
- Framing size marriage certificate: $35
- Rush service: $25 (does not include cost of certificate or courier fee)
Validity
A marriage certificate is valid for a lifetime unless granted a divorce or annulment.

Processing Time
It usually takes a week. If you want to expedite it, you may opt to avail the rush service, which takes 24 hrs., and pay $25.

Instructions
- The marriage commissioner or a religious representative can help accomplish the marriage registration form.
- The marriage commissioner or religious representative, after the marriage rites, will send the accomplished form to the Vital Statistics office where the marriage is registered and legal record is kept.
- During the marriage ceremony, the marriage commissioner and religious representative will hand out a certificate of marriage to the couple. However, this certificate is not a legal proof of marriage.
- After the marriage ceremony and upon receipt of the Marriage Registration Form, you may now apply at the Vital Statistics for a marriage certificate.
Required Information
- Couples full names (surname, given name, middle name)
- Couples birthplace
- Date (mm/dd/yy) and place of marriage
- Applicants name, address, and telephone number
- Relationship to person whose name appears on the certificate and reason for requesting a certificate
- Mode of payment: money order, debit card, visa (expiry date)
- Valid ID with photo must be presented when applying for a certificate
Need for the Document
A marriage paper is a legal proof that two people are married.
- Any individual who wish to apply for a birth certificate should present a government-issued ID.
- Any individual who wish to pick up a birth certificate of another person should have an authorization letter from the person whose name appears on the certificate and present his/her own ID.
- Certificate can be delivered at the applicants expense.
Other uses of the Document/Certificate
A marriage certificate is essential in applying for a passport, social security, drivers license, and other entities which require legal proof of marital status.
