Apply online:

1. To Request for Business Name Certificate, the applicant has to make the application online via the Department of Trade and Industry link
2. The applicant has to read the terms and conditions and click the “I agree” button.
3. The applicant has to complete the requestor details and address and then click the “Next” button.
4. Fill out the required fields about the Business Scope and Business Name.
5. To check the name, the applicant needs to enter the name and click the “Check name availability” button.
6. After completing click the “Proceed” button.
7. The applicant will get the reference code and it will be used in all the transactions with BNRS.
8. Click the “Continue” button and follow the application fill-up, after completing click the “Proceed” button.
9. The payment section will subsequently appear whereupon her/she should select the payment method prescribed by the system.
10. The fee details for this procedure are mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
11. Once the payment transaction is successful, the Certificate of Business Name Registration will be sent to the email.
12. Upon confirmation of payment, click “Proceed”.
13. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
14. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets an email from the office regarding the application.
15. The applicant can use this transaction inquiry from the following link to download the certificate link
16. The applicant has to read the terms and conditions and click the “I agree” button.
17. A verification code will be sent to the email address provided at the registration time.
18. Use the verification code to access the Transaction Summary.
19. The applicant can download the certificate by clicking the “Downloadable contents”.
20. The processing time for this request takes up to 15 – 25 days.

Note: Applications filed by non-Philippine nationals, recognized refugees, and stateless persons shall be processed only upon submission of the applicable supporting documentary requirements at any DTI Office and with the payment of applicable fees.

• Under the Business Name Law (Republic Act 3883), it's illegal for anyone to use any name for a business other than the owner's true name without first registering the business name with the DTI.

• It is necessary to register the applicant’s single proprietorship business with the DTI to provide it with a legal identity and gain the right to use the applicant's business name. Remember that a business name (BN) registration is not a license to operate a business.
