- To renew your driver's license, visit a ServiceOntario Centre.

- If you're out of Ontario:
- If your license will expire while you are traveling outside Ontario you can renew your license at a ServiceOntario centre 180 days before the license expires.
- If you are traveling out of the province when your license expires but will be returning within six months, you may be sent a one-time temporary driver's license valid for up to a maximum of six months, so you can continue to drive while you are away.
You will need to send a signed letter including:
- your driver's license number or name and date of birth
- the length of time and reason for your absence
- an out-of-province mailing address
- telephone number and/or e-mail address
- a copy of your driver's license photo-card
- Send this information to:
- Ministry of Transportation

Anyone with a driver's license that is about to expire or expired.
Fees
Renewing a drivers license costs $75

Instructions
- To renew your drivers license you will need:
- Your renewal reminder (application, postcard or email). A renewal reminder is sent to you by mail or email 2 to 3 months before the expiry
- A personal identification document (verifying your name, date of birth and signature).
- Renewing more than four weeks before expiry? Your new drivers license will arrive in the mail.
- Renewing with less than four weeks until the expiry? You will be given a temporary drivers license and your new drivers license will arrive in the mail.
Please note: Your renewal reminder will tell you what to do if you do not require a photo, do require an exam, or are over the age of 80.
