1. To obtain a certified copy of a divorce certificate, you will need to contact the court office where the case was started. Call the court office in advance if you would like to ask about any steps that are necessary in order to obtain the documents.
2. You may file your request in person or through a representative.
3. When you visit the court office, do not forget to bring a valid identification. The registry personnel may ask for your ID in order to confirm your identity and make sure that you have the right to obtain the certificate.
4. Make sure to provided these important details which will make searching for the record easier:
   1. divorce registry number
   2. name of both parties
   3. year of the judgment
5. In case you don't know your divorce registry number, you may get in touch with the Central Registry of Divorce Proceedings. NOTE: CRDP can only provide you with your divorce registry number and does not have copies of divorce certificates.
   Documentation for divorces that were granted in Ontario prior to 1979 can be obtained from the Archives of Ontario. Archives staff will require the year the divorce was granted, the court location and the court file number. If you do not have that information, you should contact the court office or the Central Registry of Divorce Proceedings.
6. After submitting your request, pay the $19.00 application fee.
