The Directorate of General Passports and Residence carry out all works relating to passports, identity cards, visas, residence permits, and road permits etc. It provides its services at airports, sea ports and border posts as well as from its main office at the ROP Force Headquarters and the regional sections.

A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains informations about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
Possessing a passport does not in itself entitle the holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued. Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
A replacement passport may be issued in case of loss provided a report was filed and a certain amount of time was spent on locating the lost passport. Once found it must be submitted along with other requirements to apply for a replacement.
