1. Fill up and submit the application form along with all the necessary requirements.
2. The designated authority will check if all the requirements are properly complied with.
3. Once cleared the authority will encode the vehicle's data on the computer system.
4. Fees will be written on the back of the application. This should be paid including applicable charges and fines.
5. Receipt and vehicle license shall be printed out and delivered to the applicant.

General requirements:

1. New registration form filled in by the applicant or their representative.
2. Vehicle Insurance
3. The selling contract issued by the dealer.
4. Copy of the identity card or copy of the commercial registration if the vehicle is to be registered in the name of a company or any institution.

Additional requirements for Expatriates:

1. Copy of the labour card.
2. Copy of the passport.
3. Copy of a valid driving licence.
4. The sponsors stamp on the form.
5. The registration form should bear the stamp of the company or establishment if the vehicle is mortgaged.
6. Letter from the government institution (government vehicle).
7. Letter from the auction if the vehicle is purchased at an auction.
8. Customs clearance if the vehicle is purchased from another country.
9. Export certificate and plates.
10. Certificate from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry if the vehicle is imported
11. Letter of discharge for cancelling the vehicle's number plate if it bears a number plate of an AGCC state and registered by an Omani National who wants to get the plates cancelled.

Additional requirements for Vehicle Registered as Taxi :

1. Approval of the Director General of Traffic or who acts on his behalf.
2. An undertaking in writing that the plate (number) will not be sold or hired out.

Additional requirements for Vehicles for Rent

1. These are registered in the names of companies and establishments after final approval of the Director General of Traffic or who acts on his behalf.

Additional requirements for Tractors/Trailers

If a tractor is to be registered in the name of an individual citizen, the requirements are:

1. Inspection of the tractor.
2. Vehicle Insurance.
3. Registration application form.
4. Copy of the identity card.
5. Copy of the commercial registration if the tractor will be registered under the name of a company or an establishment.

• Public and private sectors, Omani nationals and expatriates are free to own a vehicle in Oman with the exception of vehicles to be registered as a taxi.

• Owning a vehicle registered as a taxi is restricted to Omani nationals only.

Vehicle registration is a requirement by the state. It's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners.

Almost all vehicles bears a unique vehicle identification number, but only registered ones display a vehicle registration plate and carry a vehicle registration certificate.
