Odisha - Complaint about Faulty Electricity Meter


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. Approach the respective North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Ltd. (NESCO) or South Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Ltd. (SOUTHCO) or Western Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Ltd. (WESCO) to register your complaint regarding the faulty electricity meter.
  2. Refer to the “Office Locations & Contacts” section in this procedure to see the respective address and contact details.
  3. Record the complaint according to the office guidelines.
  4. Once the complaint is recorded the consumer will be provided with an acknowledgement which needs to be kept safe until further notice.
  5. The request will be taken care of by the respective authority.
  6. A technician will visit on the address mentioned in the application to inspect the electricity meter.
  7. If the electricity meter is found faulty, it is removed and taken to the department lab for checking.
  8. The department will inform to the consumer to either collect the repaired meter or the replaced meter until which the consumer needs to wait until further notice from the department.
  9. The consumer must follow the department notice and regulations to get the electricity meter fixed.

  3. Once all the mandatory information is filled, click on the submit button.
  4. The complaint is successfully submitted.
  5. After the complaint is submitted the fuse man will visit for the inspection of the faulty meter and replace the meter from the local or centralized location.
  6. The department will inform to the consumer to either collect the repaired meter or the replaced meter until which the consumer needs to wait until further notice from the department.

Instructions

  • If the meter is defective and it belongs to licensee, the licensee shall replace the meter within 30 days of receiving the complaint. Non-compliance of this provision makes the consumer automatically eligible to get a compensation of Rs.100/-.
  • If the meter is burnt due to causes not attributable to the consumer the licensee will replace the meter within 30 working days of removal of the meter in case the meter belongs to the licensee. Failure to comply with this provision will attract an automatic compensation of Rs.200/- for each case of default to be paid by the licensee.
  • If the meter is burnt due to causes attributable to the consumer the licensee will replace the meter within 15 days of the receiving the cost of the meter, if the meter belongs to licensee.
  •  In case the meter is supplied by the consumer, s/he shall get the meter replaced within the period of 30 working days after so advised by the engineer. Failure to rectify or get the meter replaced within the above period shall result in disconnection after 7 clear days of notice to the consumer by the licensee.
