Apply by Mail

1. To apply for replacement of permanent residence in Canada, the applicant needs to obtain an application form from the official website of the Canadian government under Immigration and Citizenship.

4. The applicant has to fill in all relevant details in the application form.
5. Attach a copy of all relevant documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The applicant also needs to ensure that their photo meets the specifications (by checking the bottom of the application form).
7. Attach old PR card with the application form.
8. The applicant will need to make a fee payment online, for that they will need a PDF viewer (Adobe 10), this is the only way to pay.

10. Once the fee has been paid, the applicant has to print the fee receipt and include it with their application form.
11. Once all the documents have been attached and the application form duly filled, send all the attached files either by mail or courier.

13. Once the application reaches the authorities, they will process it to make sure the details have been entered correctly.
14. The applicant will receive the PR card either by mail or will have to pick it up from the office.
15. If the applicant is asked to pick the card from the office, they will have to carry documents such as their passport, and original copies of the documents that were sent while applying.

• The applicant needs to be a permanent resident of Canada. (Be a resident for 730 days)
• Only apply if the PR card expires in less than 9 months.
• The card is lost, stolen or destroyed.
• The applicant must get their old card with them to the IRCC office.

• The applicant will have to pay a fee of 50$ for the PR card.

• The PR card is valid as long as the applicant meets the residency requirements.
• The PR card needs to be renewed every 5 years, but some cards need to be renewed every year.
• The expiry date is mentioned on the PR card.
• If the applicants PR card expires within 6 months, the applicant will need to get it renewed.
• The applicant needs to be in Canada while renewing the card.
• If the applicant is entering Canada by a commercial vehicle with an expired PR card, they will have to carry their PRTD.
