Nunavut - Apply for Driver License


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a driver’s license in Canada the applicant will need to first get a Class 7 Learner’s license.
    • Apply for a test date.
    • You can apply here apply
    • The applicant will have to pay a fee of 30.25$.
    • On the day of the test carry two government-issued ID cards with one of them showing your DOB.
    • The agent will check to see if you have good vision.
    • Once the applicant passes these tests, a class 7 license will be issued.
    • The applicant will receive a temporary license which they can use until the license card arrives by mail.
    • Once the applicant receives the license card, they will have to destroy the temporary license.
    • The license is valid for 5 years.
  2. After a period of one month, the applicant is eligible for a class 5 license.
  3. Contact the driving licensing officer to schedule a road test.
  4. Nunavut communities of Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Cambridge Bay and Gjoa Haven can apply here link
  5. All other Nunavut communities - Apply at any local Municipal Liaison Officer (MLO) or Government Liaison Officer (GLO)
  6. Practice for the driving test, and make sure the applicant has less than 6 demerit points.
  7. Arrive early for the test, if the applicant is late the appointment will be cancelled.
  8. Make sure the vehicle meets all safety standards.





Required Documents

  • Make sure the applicant brings at least 2 government-issued pieces of ID with at least one of them showing your date of birth
  • Bring along a Class 7 licence card
  • Bring along insurance and registration documents for the vehicle you will be taking to your Nunavut Road test
