Nunavut - Apply Income Support for Workers


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply Income Support for Workers in person, the applicant has to first contact his/her community Income Assistance Worker.
  2. Contact numbers of Income Assistance Workers with respect to the community can be found in the following document Contact numbers
  3. The applicant should first contact the respective Income Assistance Worker to set up an appointment.
  4. Make sure that all the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page, are available.
  5. Visit the Income Assistance Worker on the scheduled date at scheduled time with all the above mentioned documents.
  6. During the appointment, the Income Assistance Worker will discuss and investigate all available resources they may have access to before determining eligibility.
  7. Submit all the documents to him/her and also provide all the information required by him/her.
  8. Within few days, the Income Assistance Worker will complete assessing the applicant’s submitted information.
  9. If the application has been approved, the applicant will be informed about that through the email address or mobile number of the applicant.
  10. If not, they will be informed about the disapproval and the corresponding reasons for the disapproval.
  11. The applicant can also contact the office where he/she applied, regarding the status of the application.

Eligibility

  • The applicant should be a resident of Nunavut and should be in need of financial support to pay for their basic needs.
  • The applicant should be at least 18 years of age.
  • The applicant should have completed a monthly financial assessmentwith an Income Assistance Worker.
  • The applicant should have a productive choice like upgrading of schooling, training, parenting under certain circumstances, employment, community work, harvesting and/or individual mental health or alcohol and drug counselling, except for the people who are 60 years old or those who have a disability.

  • Benefits may be provided on a case-by-case basis to those who meet various program eligibility requirements.
