Nigeria - Obtain a Certified True Copy Certificate

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for obtaining a Certified True Copy Certificate in person, the applicant has to visit the office of a Notary public of his/her convenience.
  2. The applicant should submit the document to be certified to the Notary public official who will carry out notarization of the document.
  3. After notarization, the official will issue the document back to the applicant with his/her seal or stamp and will record the process in his/her permanent register.
  4. For Authentication, the notarized document should be submitted along with the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page at the office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  6. Visit the office and submit the documents as per the instructions of the concerned official. Also pay the prescribed fees by choosing any one of the payment methods available.
  7. Once got authenticated, the applicant can proceed to apply for legalization at the particular embassy/high commission/consulate.
  8. The applicant should visit his/her country’s embassy and obtain the application form for legalization of documents from the respective department.
  9. Complete the application form with details as required and attach the required documents with the completed form.
  10. Then, submit it to the relevant authority at the embassy and pay the prescribed fees for legalization.
  11. After legalization when the documents are ready for collection, the office will inform the applicant and he/she can collect it by any applicable means.

  • A person who wants to get his/her locally obtained document(s) certified, can also apply.
  • The applicant can also apply through an authorized representative.

  • This process is simple and will be completed after verification and payment of fees at the relevant office.
