Newfoundland and Labrador - Renew Driver License


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. The applicant will need to renew the license 6 months prior to the license expiry date. The applicant will need to visit the nearest Motor Registration Office and find the nearest centre: Link
  2. Fill in the application form, enter all the relevant details.
  3. Carry all relevant documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, the applicant will need to bring two acceptable ID’s.
  4. The applicant will need to carry their old Driver’s license.
  5. The applicant will have to pay fees, find fee-related information under the “Fees” section of this page.
  6. The applicant will be issued their license by mail, within a few weeks from the submission of the application.


Apply Online

  1. The applicant will need to visit the official Newfoundland and Labrador website, use the following Link.
  2. Log in to the account.
  3. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
    • Click on “Create a new account”.
    • Click on “next”.
    • Enter details such as name, email address, password and so on.
    • Agree to the terms and click on “Next”.
    • The applicant will have to confirm their email address.
    • Enter OTP.
    • Click on “Next”.
    • The applicant is now registered, they can log in to their account by going back to the login page.
  4. Once logged in, click on “Driver’s License Renewal”.
  5. Click on “Link Your Service”.
  6. Enter Driver’s license number and other details and click on “Submit”.
  7. The applicant will have to upload documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. Submit the application form.
  9. The applicant will be issued their license by mail, within a few weeks from the submission of the application.

  • Expired driver’s license or driver’s license number
  • Two ID proofs such as:
    • Passport
    • Military ID
    • Health card
  • Two proofs of residency
  • Fee receipt
  • Application form.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must have a full licence (G, M class) that isn’t cancelled or suspended.
  • The applicant hasn’t updated their address within the last 90 days.
  • The applicant doesn’t need tests.
  • The applicant has no new medical conditions that may prevent them from driving.
  • The applicant should not have any outstanding fines or penalties.
  • The applicant is a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador.



Fees

The applicant will need to pay a renewal fee; this will be intimated by the authorities.


Validity

A driver’s license is valid for a period of 5 years after which it needs to be renewed.

Instructions

  • If the applicant is older than 70 years of age, he/she will need to show a medical clearance certificate.
  • If the applicant drives with an expired license, he/she will have to pay a fine and may face imprisonment.
