1. Go to a NWS registry office with your proof of identity documents.
2. Book your pre-learner course at your local motor registry or by calling Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) on 13 22 13 (but youll need a credit card if you book over the phone).
3. After completing the course, you will receive a pre-learner Certificate of Competence. This certificate enables you to take the driver knowledge test at a motor registry to get your learner rider license.
4. Pass the driver knowledge test to get your learner rider license.
5. Attend a pre-provisional training course.You can book this course at anytime after getting your learner rider license.
6. After successfully completing the course you will progress to the Motorcycle Operator Skills Test (MOST) which is a further one hour skills test, when you pass both you will receive a Certificate of Competence.
7. Take your Certificate of Competency to the motor registry to have your license upgraded to P1.
8. You can upgrade to a P2 rider license after a minimum of 12 months of holding your P1 rider license.
9. After holding a P2 rider license for a minimum of 24 months you can upgrade to a full rider license.

A motorcycle license is an official document that allows a person to legally drive a motorcycle.
