New Brunswick - Change Your Name (Deed Poll)


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a change of name in New Brunswick, the applicant will need to visit the nearest vital statistics office, find the address under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.

  4. The office will prove a change of name package.
  5. The package will contain an application form.
  6. Fill in all the relevant details along with supporting documents.
  7. Submit the application form along with supporting documents to the Vital Statistics office.
  8. Once submitted, the application will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.
  9. The applicant will receive their change of name certificate which can be collected from the office.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a resident of New Brunswick for at least three consecutive months.
  • The applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
  • The applicant age 16 or older should never have been married.
  • A parent who is legally a child guardian or in the custody of the child may be able to change the child’s name.



Fees

  • If the applicant wants to change their given name: $115
  • Surname: $130
  • Child's surname done at the same time as parent's surname change: $65
  • Duplicate change of name certificate: $20



Validity

The document is valid forever and does not need to be renewed.
