Marriage is a process in life where two people come to a common understanding and make life-long commitment to each other. Registering marriage is the process of registering the long life commitment for official recognition. Marriage registration in Mozambique is administered by the National Directorate of the Registries and Notary (Direco Nacional de Registos e Notariado, DNRN) which is under the under the Ministry of Justice. The Directorate conducts marriage registration through the conservatories for religious and civil marriages and through the local authorities for traditional marriages.
Applicants must not that traditional marriages are in most not registered but upon application and upon satisfaction that two people have lived together as husband and wife for a period of not less than three (3) years, their marriage may be registered as a de facto marriage in a special book
