Any visitor transiting or crossing Mozambique from border to border along the coast need a transit visa.
The appropriate processing fee should be made payable to Embassy of Mozambique if applying at the Embassy of Mozambique.
The cost to get a transit visa in Mozambique varies from country to country where you come from and where you are going . Before the fee for a transit visa was the same as that of a tourist or business visa. Mozambique is among those countries that charge a different fee for each type of visa. Fees can range from $30 to hundreds of dollars, depending on the country to which you are coming from and applying.
The transit visa is valid for 3-7 days or less, for transferring through port in Mozambique to a third destination.

Going through Mozambique en route to another destination, You are likely going to need a transit visa.
Below is how to get a Transit Visa for Mozambique. This visa type is for foreigners who are travelling through Mozambique en route to another country. The stay may not exceed 7 days.
Visas for short term transit, tourist and business stays can be purchased on arrival at ports of entry in Mozambique.
There are also visa which are granted for transiting or crossing Mozambique from border to border along the coast. When available, this kind of visa does not require a "guide", unless specifically requested. Usually it takes around 5 working-days to process the visa, but to guarantee arrival on the specified date it is best if you send your documents 10 days before arrival.
Transit visa cannot be used for tourism purposes, in the same way one is not allowed to work in the country without a work visa; but from experience we can confirm that transit travelers can stop at any point along the coast including archaeological sites, and can camp wherever there are suitable and safe places for camping. Since the tour guide or the escort is no longer required (since 2012), it is best to apply for tourist visa instead. The other difference is that transit visa allows less time in Mozambique than the tourist visa.
The Mozambican Embassies and Consular Offices are the only accredited Mozambican Government agencies, who are permitted to grant Mozambican visas in a different country.
Generally, to avoid any risks that can come up when getting on flights to Mozambique or at Mozambican ports of entry due to possible miscommunication, visitors are highly adviced to apply with the Mozambican Embassy and Consular Offices in your home country to get Mozambican visas in advance of travelling.
In individual cases, You may be required to provide additional documents. Embassy rules and regulations can and do, very occationally change overnight. They accept no responsibilty for any such changes. Also, they may not , under any circumstances, intercede or take responsibilty for any transaction initiated directly between an applicant and the embassy.
Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
