Mexico - Obtain a Voters Card


Procedure

  1. Gather all documents you will need to submit or present to apply for the procedure.
  2. Fill out a registration form.
  3. Submit the completed form along with all other required documents. In the event that the citizen does not possess any identification documents with a photo, the applicant may present two witnesses, one of whom shall be registered in the electoral district where the applicant is applying.
  4. Have your photo taken, and a sample of your signature and fingerprints collected.
  5. Sign all documents necessary to formalize your registration.
  6. You will received a document stating that you have completed the process of registering as a voter.
  7. The voter's card once your name is officially included in the electoral roll.

Note: An individual may act as a witness four times over a period of 120 calendar days.

  • Proof of Mexican Nationality:
    • Original Birth Certificate
    • Letter of Naturalization or Certificate of Naturalization
  • Two valid identification with photo
  • Proof of address:
    • Receipts for payment of taxes and / or public and private services (utilities).

Eligibility

To be able to obtain a voter's card, an applicant must be a registered voter first.

To register as a voter, you must be a Mexican National and has reached the aged of 18.

Need for the Document

An election is a process that allows eligible members of a community to choose who they would like to hold positions of authority in their community. The election process will give members of the community the chance to decide who will govern at the different levels of governance and in a way gives them an opportunity to make choices about the policies, programs and future directions the Government must take.

An electoral roll is a list of all those registered to vote, in a particular place.
