Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Change Status from Humanitarian Visitor to Permanent Resident, the applicant has to approach the Instituto Nacional de Migración link
- The applicant has to visit the office with the request letter.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Once the application is submitted, the individual will be scheduled for an interview with the INM. During the interview, the individual will be asked questions about their reasons for seeking permanent residency and their ability to support themselves financially.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number or through email.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a notification through email.
- If the application is approved, the individual will be issued a permit.
- This entire process can be completed within 7 – 14 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Need for the Document
- In Mexico, a Humanitarian Visitor is a foreign national who has been granted a temporary visa for humanitarian reasons, such as to visit family members, receive medical treatment, or attend a funeral.
- However, if a person wants to stay in Mexico permanently, they may apply to change their status from a Humanitarian Visitor to a Permanent Resident.
- Once the individual has a Temporary Resident Visa, they can work towards meeting the requirements for permanent residency, such as demonstrating a stable income, providing a criminal background check, and obtaining health insurance.
