Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Integrated Circuit Layout Registration, the applicant has to approach the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
10. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
11. If the application is accepted, the integrated circuit layout design will be published in the Official Gazette, and there will be a period during which third parties can oppose the registration.
12. If there are no oppositions or any oppositions are resolved in your favour, IMPI will grant the registration for the Integrated Circuit Layout.
13. This entire process can be completed within 15 days or per the timeline the respective department authority advised.

• The applicant must be the creator of the layout design or the owner of the copyright in the layout design.
• The layout design must be original and must not have been commercially exploited anywhere in the world before the date of applying for registration.
• The layout design must be described in a manner that allows it to be reproduced.

• An integrated circuit is a miniaturized electronic circuit that is composed of various components, such as transistors and resistors, embedded into a single chip of semiconductor material.

• The registration of the layout of an integrated circuit grants the creator or right holder exclusive rights to use, manufacture, and commercialize the design in Mexico.
• This protection is granted under the Industrial Property Law (Ley de la Propiedad Industrial) and is administered by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial, IMPI).
