Mauritius - Request Treatment of Imported and Exported Goods


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Request Treatment of Imported and Exported Goods in person, the applicant has to approach the Mauritius Revenue Authority Contact link
  2. The applicant must write an application form for Treatment of Imported and Exported Goods.
  3. The application must include the details of the goods, the type of treatment sought, and the reasons for requesting the treatment.
  4. To request treatment of imported and exported goods, the applicant must have the necessary documents, including the original invoice, a bill of lading, a packing list, and other relevant documents can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant must submit a written application to the relevant Customs Department.
  6. The Customs Department will review the application and may require additional information or documents.
  7. After reviewing the application, the Customs Department will issue an approval or a rejection of the request for treatment.
  8. Once the request is approved, the applicant must pay the applicable fees. The fees vary based on the type and amount of goods being treated.
  9. After the fees have been paid, the applicant can receive the treatment. Depending on the type of treatment requested, the Customs Department may require additional inspections or paperwork.
  10. Generally, the processing time can take up to 3-4 weeks.

Eligibility

  • In Mauritius, anyone who is registered with the Mauritius Revenue Authority as an Importer or Exporter is eligible for Request Treatment of Imported and Exported Goods in Mauritius.

Imported Goods

  • All imported goods must be declared to the Customs Department and must be accompanied by an approved import permit.
  • The Customs Department will then assess the goods and, if applicable, levy customs duties, excise duties, and other taxes.
  • The importer must also pay any additional costs associated with the importation, such as customs clearance and storage fees.
  • Exported Goods
  • Exporters must also declare their goods to the Customs Department and obtain an export permit.
  • The Customs Department will assess the goods and, if applicable, levy customs duties, excise duties, and other taxes.
  • The exporter must also pay any additional costs associated with the export, such as customs clearance and storage fees.
  • Additionally, exporters must provide proof of origin and destination of the goods.

  • Description of the goods being exported and imported.
  • Quantity of goods being exported and imported.
  • Purpose of the export/import.
  • Date of the export/import.
  • Value of the goods being exported and imported.
  • Mode of transport.

  • Any other relevant information.
