- Applicants should ensure that they thoroughly and accurately fill out the form, signing it in the presence of a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths to guarantee the validity of the information provided.
- Applicants should attach the copy of the National Identity Card, a copy of the birth certificate and two recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant to the nearest Civil Status Office, which can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Applicants should Pay the prescribed fees as per the instructions on the "Fees" section of this page and submit the fees receipt to the Defence and Home Affairs Division in Mauritius, to complete the application process successfully.
- Applicants should Submit the application form, including any necessary supporting documentation, to the Officer in Charge of Citizenship to be considered for the application process.
- The Officer will thoroughly review the application and accompanying documents to ensure that all necessary criteria have been met before making a final decision.
- After a thorough check of the documents, the Officer in Charge will forward the application form to the Ministry of Home Affairs to proceed with further legal formalities and ensure that all the necessary protocols are followed.
- After reviewing the application, if everything is in accordance with the law and all required documents have been provided, the Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship will be issued, granting the individual the legal rights and responsibilities of a citizen of the country.
- After the applicants can get the Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship in person or by post.
- The processing time for obtaining a Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship to a person is approximately 12 months.

Eligibility
Any person who has been deprived of Mauritian citizenship, or whose citizenship has been suspended, may apply for a Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship (CROC) to regain their rights and privileges as a citizen of Mauritius. An applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have been born in Mauritius or have one parent who was born in Mauritius
- Have at least one grandparent who was born in Mauritius
- Have been deprived of Mauritian citizenship, or had their citizenship suspended
- Have not acquired the citizenship of another country since being deprived or suspended
- Pass a security check
- Pass a medical examination
- Pass a language test (if required)
- Have sufficient knowledge of Mauritian history and culture
- Have a valid Mauritian identity card or passport
Fees
- A non-refundable application fee of Rs 2,000 should be paid upon submission of the application.
- Upon approval, a prescribed fee of Rs 8,000 is payable at the Cash Office of the Prime Minister's Office.
Validity
- A Certificate of Registration issued under the Mauritius Citizenship Act is valid for an indefinite period, but it should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.

Instructions
- The process for obtaining a Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship to a Person in Mauritius is outlined in the Citizenship Act 1981, as amended.
- This process requires an application to be made to the Citizenship and Immigration Department.
- The applicant must provide proof of identity, and proof of Mauritian citizenship or of their eligibility to be a citizen of Mauritius.
