Mauritius - Obtain Certificate of Registration to a Commonwealth Citizen

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Certificate of Registration to a Commonwealth Citizen, the applicant has to approach the Defence and Home Affairs Division in Mauritius - Contact link
  2. Applicants should download the application form from this link - link.
  3. The applicant must complete an application form for Certificate of Registration to a Commonwealth Citizen.
  4. The applicant has to produce original documents such as valid passport or travel document, proof of residence in Mauritius, birth or marriage certificate, and they can be found under the “Required Document” section of this page.
  5. The applicant must attach any additional documents requested by the Defence and Home Affairs Division.
  6. The application form and documents have to be submitted to the Defence and Home Affairs Division.
  7. The applicant must appear for an interview with an officer of the Defence and Home Affairs Division to verify and authenticate the authenticity of the information stated in the application form for the applicant to be eligible for the application.
  8. To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must submit their biometrics, including finger scans and digital photographs, for assessment.
  9. After the successful completion of the verification process, the official at the citizenship section will issue the application an acknowledgment receipt that contains all the relevant details of the application.
  10. If The application meets the required merits for registration, the minister will evaluate it and give approval for its registration.
  11. Upon approval of the applicant's application, they will be notified in writing and must subsequently pay the required fee for the Certificate of Registration to a Commonwealth Citizen to finalize the registration process.
  12. A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  13. Once the fee has been paid, the Certificate of Registration to a Commonwealth Citizen will be promptly issued to the applicant, enabling them to legally reside and work in the Commonwealth.
  14. Generally, the processing time is between 3 to 5 weeks.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to obtain a Certificate of Registration as a Commonwealth Citizen in Mauritius, a person must be a Commonwealth national and have resided in Mauritius for a minimum period of one year.

Validity

  • To obtain a Certificate of Registration as a Commonwealth Citizen in Mauritius, the applicant will need to submit an application to the Department of Immigration in Mauritius.
  • The application must include a valid passport or travel document, two passport-size photographs, a birth certificate and any other supporting documents.
  • They must also provide evidence of their connection to a Commonwealth country, such as a birth or adoption certificate showing them were born in the country or a certificate of naturalization showing they have been naturalized in the country.
  • Once the application is approved, they will be issued with a Certificate of Registration.
