Apply In Person:
- To Get Self Employed Permit or License in Mauritius, applicant must first contact the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius link
- The EDB is responsible for the grant of licenses and permits to individuals who wish to operate a business in the country.
- Applicants should obtain the Application Form from the Economic Development Board (EDB) authority.
- The application form should include information about the applicant’s business plan, as well as details of the business premises, equipment, and financial requirements.
- Supporting documents must also be submitted along with the application form, such as a business plan, proof of financial soundness, and a certificate of good standing from the applicant’s previous regulatory authority and they can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Once the application is complete, it must be submitted to the EDB for review.
- Once the application form is submitted to the EDB, the applicant will be required to submit additional documents, such as a business plan and a financial statement.
- After the documents have been submitted, the EDB will assess the application and decide whether to grant the self-employment permit or license.
- If the permit or license is granted, the applicant will be required to register the business with the Companies and Business Registration Office (CBRO). This will allow the business to operate legally in Mauritius.
- It is important to remember that all businesses in Mauritius must comply with the relevant laws and regulations.
- Finally, applicants must pay an annual fee to the EDB to maintain the license or permit and they can be found under the “Fees” section of this page.
- The applicant must also ensure that all necessary taxes and levies are paid, and that all regulations and laws are adhered to.
- Processing time for this procedure is 4-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the application.

- Contracts or letters of intent from potential clients (min. of 2)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Original Academic and Professional qualifications or true certified copies by competent
- Passport – Biodata page
- 1 recent colour passport size digital photograph – dimensions 3.5cm (413 pixels) x 4.5cm (531 pixels) (less than six months old)
- Signed undertaking – to be filled and signed by the applicant.
- Copy of any other permit – Occupation Permit/Work/Residence Permit
- Business Registration Card
- Investment (evidence of transfer of funds from abroad in a local bank account of the company)
- Clearances/licenses/letter of intent for regulated activities (GBL, TEL, etc)
- Marriage Certificate / Divorce Certificate– original (either in English or French) If not, a certified/sworn translated copy by a competent authority should be submitted.
- Medical Certificate and reports – less than six months old
- Last entry visa pages
- Any other document as may be required

Eligibility
- Anyone aged 18 or over who wishes to establish their own business in Mauritius, such as a trade, industry, professional service, agriculture or other business sector, is eligible to apply for a Get Self Employed Permit or License.
Fees
- Applicable fees for this Self-Employed Permit is US$1000.
Validity
- The Immigration Act also states that the Self-Employed Permit is valid for 10 years.
