Apply In Person

1. To apply to Convert or Exchange a Foreign Driver License, the applicant should make the application to the Traffic Branch of the Mauritius Police Force. Please view the Mauritius Police Force contact information through this link Contact Details.
2. Write a formal letter addressed to the Deputy Chief of Police, requesting to convert the foreign driver's license.
3. Then gather and prepare all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach them to the application letter in a single file.
4. Then visit the Mauritius Police Force and go to the Traffic Branch section and submit the application file to the official at the service desk.
5. The officer will receive the application and check if it is completed as required and then the applicant will be directed to pay the prescribed fee at the cash desk.
6. Pay the requisite fee and obtain the payment receipt
7. The applicant will then be required to take a driving test to check the applicant’s driving competency and if the applicant passes the test, the application will be approved for processing.
8. The application will be processed and the applicant will be issued with a Mauritius driving permit.

• If the applicant has a driving license from Europe, Australia, or the USA, they don’t have to take the driving test again.
