Manitoba - Apply for Medical License


Procedure

Apply by Mail:

  1. To Apply for Medical License, the applicant has to approach the Medical Council of Canada link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned branch officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Depending on the province, you may be required to pass the MCCEE, which assesses your basic medical knowledge. However, please note that the MCCEE is being phased out and replaced by the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I.
  7. Complete the MCCQE Part I and Part II examinations, which assess your clinical knowledge and skills. These exams are typically required for licensure in most provinces.
  8. Demonstrate proficiency in the official languages of Canada, which are English and French. This may involve providing proof of language proficiency through standardized language tests, such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP).
  9. Complete the required postgraduate training or residency program in the relevant specialty. The duration of training varies depending on the specialty and the province.
  10. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned office mailing address.

  12. The fee details for this procedure is mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
  13. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  14. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  15. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  16. Undergo a background check, which may include providing fingerprints and consent for a criminal record check and a verification of your professional conduct history.
  17. Obtain medical liability insurance coverage, also known as medical malpractice insurance, as required by the licensing authority.
  18. Some provinces may require an interview or an assessment of your clinical skills before granting a medical license.
  19. Once the application is approved, the applicant will receive the medical license from the licensing authority. This license grants you legal permission to practice medicine in the specific province or territory.
  20. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
