1. About 8 to 12 weeks prior to the expiry of the driving license, a Driving License Renewal Form is mailed together with a self-addressed envelope to enable you to use this when mailing back to Transport Malta. A Driving License Medical Certification Form is also mailed together with the renewal form for persons holding a Category C, C1, D, D1 and for persons of 70 years of age and over.
2. You can renew a Driving License by filling the renewal form and sending it by post using the provided self addressed envelope or by paying it online using your e-ID account by entering the reference code found on the renewal form.

• the driving license renewal form, duly filled-in, and signed;
• one good-quality coloured passport-sized photograph;
• the fee shown on the renewal form, payable by cheque or money order in favour of Transport Malta;
• medical certificate required if the license holder hold one of the categories C, C, D, D1 and for person of 70 years of age and over.
• copy of the identity card in case of a change in address / surname

Any one who holds a driver's license in Malta.

• full driving license - 52.50 for a maximum period of ten years
• full driving license if the license holder is 70 years or over - 29.25 (then the licenses shall become renewable every five years)

• A full driving license for ten years is issued, upon renewal, if no penalty points are recorded or if the penalty points imposed were less than 12.
• A driving license shall not be granted or renewed unless, at the age of seventy years and every five years thereafter, a person produces a medical certificate of physical fitness on application.
