1. In order to register or operate a business as a self-employed in Malta, individuals need to inform JobsPlus through the completion of a Self Engagement Form as well as notify the National Statistics Office for inclusion in the Business Register.
2. Depending upon the operations related to the business the following might be required.
   1. VAT number/s to register with the VAT Department in the event that their activity is not VAT exempt; and/ or
   2. PE number - to register as an employer with the Inland Revenue Department in the event that the activity will entail the engagement of employees during the initial stages
   3. Filling in the Business Register Questionnaire provided by the National Statistics Office.

4. The data will be processed and the applicant will be provided through electronic means with the necessary registration numbers to be able to commence operations within 48 hours.
