1. The applicant must submit a DRV 12 - Driving Instructor application (which application will also serve as an application for the practical tests) from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit.
2. Submit the required documents (as stated below) along with your application.
3. If the applicant is successful, he will be notified to commence the three-part instructors tests known as the Examination of Ability to give Instruction in accordance with Motor Vehicles (Driving Licenses) Subsidiary Legislation 65.18 (Eleventh Schedule) consisting of a:Theory examination; Driving ability and fitness test; and Instruction ability and fitness test.
4. If the applicant has successfully passed the Theory Examination, he will proceed with the driving ability and fitness test, and the instruction ability and fitness test against a fee of 23.25 each, the tests are conducted by Driver And Vehicle Licensing Unit (DVLU) driving examiners.
5. The above tests must be completed within one year from the date of application, otherwise the entire process must be started again, and any test results achieved in the meantime, will no longer be valid.
6. Having passed the three tests, DVLU will issue the following: full Instructors license against a fee of 12.00; and Driving Instructors Tag against a fee of 12.00.

• a police conduct certificate issued during the past six months;
• two coloured passport-sized photographs of the applicant taken recently;
• photocopy of the Identity Card, and the Driving Licence;
• a medical certificate attesting the applicants mental and physical fitness;
• theory test certificate; and
• application fee of 12.

Driving instructors operating through a motoring school have to obtain a pass in the examination of ability to give instruction to prospective drivers, following a course of instruction approved for the purpose by Transport Malta.

Application fee - 12

The instructors license expires at the end of December and upon expiry it should be renewed for a period of one year.

A driver instruction permit is an official document that allow a driver instructor to train people how to safely operate motorized vehicles.
