Identity cards damaged within 12 months from the date of issuance is waived of replacement fee. Those issued after the 12 month period will have to pay either 10 RM for citizens or 40 RM for non-citizens. Payment for online applications can only be made with credit card.

Regulation 13 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) states that any person whose identity card is damaged or destroyed shall immediately apply for a replacement identity card.
