Malawi - Obtain Export Enterprise Certificate


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. Go to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism office, in the office go to the section of Export Processing Zone (EPZ)
  2. Request from the EPZ service desk officer an application form for the certificate and a guide of all the supporting documents you need to complete the application
  3. Fill the application form, submit it with all the required documents attached to the EPZ officer who will verify the application
  4. Confirm if your application is in order then processed and pay the application fees
  5. The EPZ officer will file your application for processing and an appointment for pre-appraisal inspection on your premises will be scheduled with all the involved parties
  6. On the inspection date a pre-appraisal will be conducted whereby a team made up of the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) officials, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and Labour Department officials will visit the company premises i.e.
    a. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism is interested in evidence that the company has market outside Malawi
    b. The MRA is interested whether the company has bounded warehouse
    c. The Labour Department is interested in the working condition of the employees of the company
  7. After conducting the pre-appraisal, the team will forward their findings to the EPZ secretariat who will make a final report which is discussed at the EPZ appraisal committee
  8. The appraisal committee convenes and if the company meets the standard requirements, the committee recommends issuance of the certificate to the minster. Who will issue the certificate
  9. Immediately the decision is made, the chairperson of the EPZ appraisal committee will write to you informing you of the decision
  10. The certificate will now be finalized and issued to you within five working days
