- To Re-register a Vehicle in Maharashtra the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office: link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. Or the applicant can download the application form from the following link link
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

- Please enter the “Vehicle Registration Number” that has been provided and click “Proceed”.
- Follow the instructions provided in the next screen.

- Application for new registration mark in Form-27
- Four copies of Form 28 with Chasis number pencil print and one court fee stamp of Rs 4.
- Form 29 Notice of Transfer of Ownership of a motor vehicle
- Form 33 Intimation of Change of Address for recording in the certificate of registration and office records
- Application for intimation and transfer of ownership in Form-30 (Form-60/61 except 2 wheelers for T.O. only)
- Police clearance certificate (In Tamil Nadu it is Crime Record Beuro or CRB) stating that this vehicle is not a stolen one
- No Objection Letter from the financier if it is under hire purchase
- Original RC Book
- Insurance Certificate
- No Objection Certificate from the original RTO
- Tax Certificate
- Pollution Under Control Certificate
- Proof of address (any one of the following):
- Ration Card
- Electoral Roll
- LIC Policy

Validity
Re-registration of a vehicle is valid for another five year. Then again you need to re-register the vehicle.

Time limit for service to be rendered is 90 days.

Instructions
- First you need to get No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the RTO where the Vehicle is already registered.
- Apply for NOC where the vehicle is registered with the following documents:
- Four copies of Form 28 with Chasis number pencil print and one court fee stamp of Rs 4.
- Police clearance certificate from the local police station
- No Objection Letter from the financier if it is under hire purchase
- Original RC Book
- Insurance Certificate
- After few days you will get your NOC from the RTO.
- Then apply for change of address and re-registration in the new state RTO with the filled in application forms and required documents:
- Intimation of Change of Address for recording in the certificate of registration and office records
- Notice of Transfer of Ownership of a motor vehicle
- Application for intimation and transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle
- No Objection Certificate from the original RTO
- Police clearance certificate stating that this vehicle is not a stolen one
- Consent from the Financier if it is hypothecated under a hire purchase
- 2 photos
- Tax Certificate
- RC Book
- Pollution Under Control Certificate
- Insurance Certificate
- New Registration Number will be issued to the vehicle within 2-3 months.

Need for the Document
When you shift your vehicle to another state from one state you will have to follow some procedure for a hassle free driving in the new state.
If you are planning to stay in the new place for less than 3 months then you dont have to do anything. As per RTO rules it is considered as a visit. If you are going to stay for more than 3 months and less than one year then you have to pay a nominal Tax amount in the new state. But RTO officers will not accept tax for other state vehicle. They will ask for change of address and re-registration.
As per rules if you are planning to stay in the new place for more than one year you have to apply for change of address and re-registration. To apply for the change of address and re-registration you have to get a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the home state RTO where the vehicle is registered before applying.
Exhibiting the Registration No.
All letters of the Registration mark/ Number shall be in English and the figures shall be in Arabic numerals and the letters & figures shall be painted in reflecting colours and be shown :
- In case of transport vehicles other than those under the rent a cab scheme 1989 in black on white ground.
- In the case of motor vehicles temporarily registered in red on yellow ground.
- In the case of motor vehicles in the possession of dealer in white on a red ground.
- In other cases, in white on a black ground.
- In the case of transport vehicle under rent a cab scheme,1989, in yellow on a black ground.
The size of registration mark should not be less than :
- For Motor Cycle or Scooters:
- Height - 35
- Thickness - 7
- Space In MM - 5
- For All Motor Vehicles:
- Height - 65
- Thickness - 10
- Space In MM - 10
Other uses of the Document/Certificate
The registration certificate is used as a proof for the ownership of a vehicle. It can also be used for the transaction,renewal,re-registration of a particular vehicle.
