Named Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RGSEAG) Scheme, it is usually denoted with the term Sabla. Government of India launched this flagship scheme on April 01, 2011 and involved Ministry of Women and Child Development to take control of RGSEAG to benefit general masses.
This centrally sponsored programme has therefore brought drastic changes in society ever since it was launched in the country. RGSEAG was planned for its thorough implementation till 31st March 2015 to obtain the best possible outcomes.
Evolution of Scheme
RGSEAG scheme had been introduced after thorough assessment of each and every factor related to giving overall support to girl children. Scheme's evolution was on the following key objectives such as support to adolescent girls to help them remain empowered through their self-development, complete improvement of their health and nutrition levels and many other factors like making them aware of health and hygiene issues besides nutrition related factors.
Provisions
An important factor which came into notice by getting implemented through the RGSEAG scheme was to help adolescent girls to maintain their reproductive and sexual health besides family and childcare related issues to tackle. This scheme also includes helping adolescent girls to find overall support in terms of honing their home-based skills from life skills which could be included under the National Skill Development Programs (NSDP) for effective vocational skill development plan.
Some of the major provisions coming under RGSEAG scheme included helping out the adolescent destitute girls to lead life like those who had all the opportunities to avail through mainstream education. They are supported by some effective and highly tailor-made formal and non-formal education systems. Healthcare and rest developments related to economic and overall support is other crucial aspect coming under it as provisions for RGSEAG scheme.
Implementation
Implementation of RGSEAG scheme has proved highly worthwhile ever since it was launched to empower adolescent girls and women. Its implementation has come in the form of integrated package of services that could guarantee better nutrition, Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation and complete health checkups for overall health and hygiene of adolescent girls.
This scheme has already been implemented in many places through counselling and giving complete guidance to adolescent girls of 11-18 years of age group for family welfare so that they can have best avenues for home management and continue with the childcare practices.
Notable services under this scheme are the supports through life skill education and offering them vocational trainings for overall growth. As it is a pan-India project, it has been implemented in selected 200 districts of India's states/UTs with the sub-division of their application for adolescent girls from 11-15 and 15–18 years of age.
