There are three different forms for changing names

Application to change an adults nameEdit

• Obtain the application from the registrar general of the National Civil Registry Tripoli Libya or any of the branch district country wide
• Fill in the forms
• Pay the necessary fee of 10.5 LYD at any bank of your choice in Libya
• Attached the letter from court together with your application form
• Submit the form for the approval for change of your name together with the receipt payment of 10.5 LYD

Application to change childs NameEdit

• Get the application from the registrar general of the National Civil Registry Tripoli Libya or any of the branch district country wide
• As you fill in each section , look at the left hand Colum of the application for helpful information
• Fill in the forms correctly
• Get the right numbers of the forms
• Submits your form for the approval for the change of your name together with the receipt payment of 10.5 LYD

• Two (2) colored photograph with white background
• Letter from the court
• Proof of national identity card or passport
• Medical examination report
• Payment receipt
• Recommendation letter from the local authorities
• Birth certificate

Only national Civil Authority Registry has the mandate to Change Name of Person Name anyone who wants to change his or her Name or Name of his or her child should go to their office located next to magrif restaurant down town Tripoli or in any of the district branch office country wide.

• Date of birth
• Place of birth
• Medical examination report
• Sex
• Marital status
• Pass port number (if applicable)
• National identity card number
• Letter from the local authorities
• Letter from the court
• Age
• Domicile or residence
• Names of parent
• Information about your criminal offenses (if any)
• Information about your change name
• Occupation
• Citizenship

Every person born in or a national of Libya has the right to change his or her own name, and also has a right to new birth certificate , nationality card , new drivers licenses, new passport with the new name on it.

• Obtain all necessary documents in applying for the change of name.
• Submit your application along with all other requirements.
• Once the new name or surname is accepted, you may proceed in registering your new name.

Registration or application forms are available in two (2) languages, and therefore you are advised to fill the form in the language you understand best in order to avoid errors

• You have divorced
• You just want a change
• In case of adoption

How you should go about changing your name will depend upon which category you fit into. Changing your name after marriage or divorce is quite a simple process, while changing your name 'just because' requires a little more effort, but it is still quite straight forward and a lot easier than it used to be.

To change your name, submit a petition to your local Superior Court that details the reasons you'd like to change your name. After the court approves your request, you'll then need to update your Social Security card, driver's license and passport.
