Liberia - Recreational Fishing License


Procedure

  1. A link is provided under 'Documents to Use' section which you can use to download the application form, you can also obtain a copy of the form at BNF's office. Complete the form and attach a copy of the vessel registration documents, a colored photo of the vessel, including engine and other required documents (see list below).
  2. Submit your application to the Bureau of National Fisheries and collect your bill payment slip.
  3. Pay the registration and licensing fees to the Special Fisheries Account at the Central Bank of Liberia (details are available at the BNF office).
  4. The Bureau of National Fisheries requires applicants to go through the inspection process before the license is issued. A new license must be applied and paid for each year.

The procedure below is required for all recreational fishing vessels, including those that wish to operate for personal or commercial reasons.

Need for the Document

All recreational (sport) fishing vessels wishing to operate in Liberian waters must obtain a valid fishing license from the Bureau of National Fisheries.

Information which might help

The Liberia Fisheries Monitoring Center (FMC) monitors Channel 16, the Fisheries Hotline at 0880431581, and fmc@liberiafisheries.net. Recreational (sport) fishers are requested to report any sightings of any illegal fishing activity taking place in Liberia waters, including date, time, GPS position, type of activity and photographs if possible. Recreational fishers are also requested to report any sightings of Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs).

For research purposes, the BNF may on occasion request catch records from recreational fishers.
