Following are the ways the application for Maternity Benefits can be applied.

In Person

1. Persons who wish to submit their application forms in-person can approach their nearest SSIA centers where the application can be submitted.

By Post

1. When applying through post the applicant should complete the application form that can be found under the following link : More Info & Application Form
2. The application can be sent to one of the SSIA centers after completing it, where address can be found under the following link : SSIA Office Information

Electronically
An electronic application can be made through the State Regional Development Agency Portal : Portal Link

• Completed Application for receiving the benefit.
• Completed Work Disability Form B.

Can be requested by expectant mothers who:

• Are employed and receive a salary.
• Are self-employed.
• Are spouses of a self-employed person and have voluntarily joined the social insurance.
• Should have Social Insurance
  
  

During the postnatal period, maternity benefit can also be obtained by the childs father or another person who takes care of the newborn at home, but no later than until the childs 70th day of life. This applies to cases where:

• The childs mother is unable to take care of the baby until the 42nd postnatal day due to sickness.
• The childs mother has refused to take care of the child.
• The childs mother has died during childbirth or before the 42nd postnatal day.
• The child is a foundling.

Explain the fees structure which is required for obtaining the certificate/document.

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.

The decision on granting the benefit will be taken within ten days after the VSAA office has received all documents that are necessary for granting the benefit.

• The benefit must be requested within 6 months from the first day of the maternity leave.

A list which displays the kind of information which is required to complete the procedure.
e.g.
1. Date of Birth.
2. City or County of Birth.

This procedure provides you information related to applying for maternity benefit in Latvia.

• The maximum period for which the maternity benefit can be obtained is 140 days.
