Laos - Obtain a Death Certificate

Procedure

[edit]

  1. Death certificates are issued by the village head as evidence of death, except if the cause of death was unclear or the death was due to a dangerous epidemic disease. In such cases, a public health official or a police officer must be urgently notified and the issuance of the death certificate shall be suspended until that official's opinion is received. Duplicates may be issued in case of loss, theft or destruction. They may also be issued in case of deterioration. To obtain a certified copy of a death certificate, go to your district's family registration office.
  2. Do not forget to bring a valid identification. The registry personnel may ask for your ID in order to confirm your identity and make sure that you have the right to obtain the certificate.
  3. When you submit your request make sure that you have provided these important details which will make searching for the record easier:
    1. Name of the deceased
    2. Sex
