Kerala - Register (License) as Tour Guide


Procedure

Apply In-Person:
FOR REGIONAL LEVEL GUIDE:

  1. To register as a Tourist Guide, applicant has to visit the Kerala Ministry of Tourism office.

  3. Applicant has to visit the Tourism office and obtain the application form from the respective officer.
  4. Now complete the form with necessary information and make sure you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. After filling the form, attach the documents mentioned in the required documents section below with the completed application form.
  6. Check the application form and then submit it to the respective officer in tourism office address mentioned in the office locations & contacts section below.
  7. Now the authorities will verify your application and call for entrance test to get admission in the Guide training course.
  8. A merit list of all applicants who pass the entrance test would be prepared on the basis of aggregated marks.
  9. Then the applicant shall receive the call letter for counselling and documents verification, admission for available seats will be filled based on merit basis and eligibility criteria.
  10. Guide training course will be conducted to the admitted candidates through respective trainee.
  11. After the completion of training programme, all candidates would be evaluated through an examination consisting of a written test and viva voce.
  12. Applicant who pass in both written test and viva voce, respective officer issues course completion certificate along with the tourist guide license.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  4. The operator will process the application online.
  5. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  6. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
  7. If verified, the license will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying in a stipulated period of time.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be at least 20 years of age during the selection process.

GENERAL:

  • Applicant should be the graduate from a recognized university or a holder of three year degree in Tourism / Hospitality.
  • Applicant who did diploma in Archaeology from an Institute recognized by UGC /AIU /AICTE / any other state or central government body.
  • Applicant must speak English fluently.



GENERAL – LINGUISTIC:

  • Applicant should be the graduate from a recognized university or a holder of three year degree in Tourism / Hospitality.
  • Applicant who did diploma in Archaeology from an Institute recognized by UGC /AIU /AICTE / any other state or central government body.
  • Applicant must speak English fluently.
  • Applicant must be able to speak any of the foreign language fluently. The fluency shall be tested at the time of written examination.

EXPERT:

  • Applicant must hold a doctorate in the field of Tourism (Indian History / Architecture / Culture/ Archaeology / Wildlife or other related fields)
  • Fluency in English is mandatory

EXPERT – LINGUISTIC:

  • Applicant must hold a doctorate in the field of Tourism (Indian History / Architecture / Culture/ Archaeology / Wildlife or other related fields)
  • Fluency in English is mandatory
  • Applicant should be able to read, write and speak any of the foreign language fluently.

Instructions

  • The applicants shall submit all original documents for verification at the time of counselling. Failure to produce original documents would lead to rejection of candidature.
  • In case the candidate does not secure minimum passing marks in the written test or viva-voce after training, he would be given two opportunities to appear for supplementary examination and viva voce, at an interval of three months, each counted from the date of declaration of last result. If a candidate fails to pass in the supplementary chances, his candidature would be cancelled.

  • Tourist guides play a major role in collaborating with tourists who visit our Country / Region / State.
  • Tourist guide is responsible for the people who visit the country. They should project correct image of the country, explain the facts about the destination and make the tourists feel comfortable and ensure safety.

There are 4 categories of Regional Level Tourist Guides

  • General – These guides can work as a regional level guide on a full time basis.
  • General Linguistic – Ministry of Tourism will identify the guides with fluency in foreign languages.
  • Expert Guides – This is a special category in the tourist guide sector. In this category, scholars or specialists in the fields of tourism will be placed.
  • Expert Linguistic – In this category, scholars or specialists with fluency in foreign language will be placed.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

One who holds the Tour guide license can be officially allotted as the state / central government tourist guide.

Prior to issuing of guiding license, the candidates would have to undergo a verification of their antecedents through the Police and any adverse report would lead to immediate disqualification of the candidate.
