Apply via Agent
Apply In-Person:
- To renew a Customs Agents license in Kenya, the applicant has to contact the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Licensing offices to make the renewal application.
- Here the applicant will be given a Form C20 - Application for Custom Agents Licence an a Stakeholders Bio-Data form by a licensing officer to fill and submit.
- Fill in the application and attach the required documents. A list of the can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant should indicate in the application form that it’s a renewal application.
- Submit the filled in renewal application form and required documents to the licensing officer and pay the required renewal application fees. The application fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
- The authority will review the application regarding any areas of noncompliance with the license requirements which the applicant is required to address.
- In addition, the Licensing Officer shall check for compliance with the conditions for renewal and confirm that the company has no outstanding transactions or pending queries.
- If the applicant has no pending queries or outstanding transactions, a recommendation is made to the Commissioner's office for renewal of the license.
- Upon successful review and approval, the applicant will be advised when the Renewed License Certificate is available for collection.
- The processing time is usually after a period of 30 days.
Required Documents
- Duly filled application form
- Duly filled Stakeholders Bio-Data form
- Produce a current tax compliance certificate.
- Replenish CB 11 bond of 5,000 USD.
- Be a current membership of Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association.
- Have audited accounts for the previous financial year for both company and directors.
- Produce of CR 12 certificate showing list of shareholders of company.
- Clear with relevant KRA sections - Investigation and Enforcement (I&E), Customs Enforcement.
- Receipt of payment of the annual fee of 400 USD.
- Copy of current license

Eligibility
- Any licensed clearing agents wishing to continue carry out clearance procedure and clearance logistics on behalf of a company or individual are eligible to make the application.
Fees
- Annual License Renewal Fee is $400.
Validity
- The customs agent license is valid for a period of one year and expire on the 31st of Dec of every year.

Need for the Document
- One needs a customs clearing agent license to carry out clearance procedure and clearance logistics on behalf of a company or individual.
- Customs agents must be licensed by the Kenya revenue Authority before they can be involved in the clearance of goods through Customs.
- Customs Agents Roles
- Assist in submitting all the necessary documentation onto the KRA electronic system on behalf of an individual.
- Payment of duties and taxes on behalf of an individual.
- Retaining all documents related to customs transactions in an orderly, itemized manner.
- Clearing Agents and Freight Forwarders will assist with the necessary customs transactions.
- A Freight Forwarder will arrange for goods to be transported from one country to another while a Clearing Agent will make sure that goods are cleared with customs.

- A Customs agent is a person who has been appointed by the Commissioner of Customs to transact business relating to Customs on behalf of other people.
- An agent, authorized by the owner to act on their behalf in writing, will be responsible for preparing and presenting the declarations to Customs. The agent may also sign any other documents on behalf of his client on request if authorized by the Customs Act. The agent will ensure that all taxes due are paid as required on the consignments he/she handles on behalf of the owner.
- The owner of goods being cleared through Customs is responsible for what the authorized agent does during the period he/she is acting on his/her behalf. Both the owner and the agent will be prosecuted for any unlawful acts done by the agent acting on his/her behalf.
- An agent should notify the Commissioner that he intends to act on behalf of the various clients who have authorized him to do so.
