- KPLC has number of convenient ways to pay electricity bills.
- There are two types of electrical bills
- (i) Postpaid
- (ii) Prepaid
- Listed below are the methods by which you can pay your electrical bills.
Paying with M-PesaEdit
- Paying your Postpaid Electricity Bill via Paybill Number 888888.
- Select “Pay Bill” from the M-Pesa menu.
- Enter the Kenya Power business number 888 888.
- Enter your new Kenya Power account number e.g. 123456.
- Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs. 100 and Shs.35,000.
- Enter your M-Pesa PIN.
- Confirm that all details are correct.
- You will receive a confirmation of the transaction via SMS.
- NB: All payments are posted in your electricity account on the same day.
- How to Buy Kenya Power (KPLC) Prepaid Tokens via M-PESA Paybill Number 888880.
- Go to the Safaricom SIM Tool Kit and select the M-PESA menu.
- Inside the M-PESA menu and select “Lipa na M-PESA“
- Select “Pay Bill“
- Select “Enter Business no.“, Enter KPLC’s Lipa na M-PESA PayBill Number 888880 and press “OK”
- Select “Enter Account no.“, Enter your KPLC Prepaid Meter Number (e.g. 0100 xxxx xxxx x) press “OK”
- “Enter Amount“, between KSh100 and 35,000 and press “OK”
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and press “OK”
- Confirm all the details are correct and press “OK”
- M-PESA HAKIKISHA, You will get a notification with the intended recipient’s name e.g. “Pay Kenya Power KSh1,000.00 for Account 0100 xxxx xxxx x Press 1 within 20 seconds to STOP this transaction.” To stop a wrong transaction, Enter “1” and press Send within 20 seconds. Pressing “Cancel” will complete the transaction.
- You will receive a confirmation SMS from M-PESA.
- KPLC will then generate a 20 digit prepaid token number valid for your meter and send via SMS.
- Enter the 20 digit prepaid token number to your meter and press enter to load the electricity tokens.
Paying with EquitelEdit
- Paying your Postpaid Electricity Bill with Equitel (Sim Tool Kit)
- Select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
- Select Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
- Choose the bank account number to pay from e.g.0123456789102
- Select business number - KPLC Bills (Post Paid)
- Enter your KPLC Postpaid Meter Number (e.g. 37168917674) press OK
- Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs. 100 and Shs.500,000.
- Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
- Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK
- You will receive a text confirmation of the transaction from Equity bank.
- NB: All payments are posted in your electricity account on the same day.
- How to Buy Kenya Power (KPLC) Prepaid Tokens via Equitel
- Select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
- Select Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
- Choose the bank account number to pay from e.g.0123456789102
- Select business number - KPLC Tokens
- Enter your KPLC Prepaid Meter Number (e.g. 37168917674) press OK
- Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between Shs. 100 and Shs.500,000.
- Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
- Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK
- You will receive a text confirmation of the transaction from Equity bank.
- KPLC will then generate a 20 digit prepaid token number valid for your meter and send via SMS.
- Enter the 20 digit prepaid token number to your meter and press enter to load the electricity tokens.
Cash PaymentEdit
- As a rule, all cash payments should be made at Kenya Power's authorised pay points which are located within official premises and the paying counters clearly marked CASHIER.
ATM PaymentsEdit
- If you have an account with Co-operative Bank, Postbank or Standard Chartered Bank, you may also pay your bill through any of these banks’ Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs).
Over the Counter Bank PaymentsEdit
- All KPLC clients and potential clients can pay their electricity bill by cash through all Equity Bank branches across the country and all payments will reflect in your electricity account on the same day.
- You may also pay your electricity bill by cash through appointed Co-operative Bank branches in Nairobi.
- Additionally, you can pay your electricity bill at any branch of the following banks countrywide (Click for full list).
Cheque PaymentsEdit
- Cheques may be deposited in designated boxes in pay centers and at specific business premises appointed by Kenya Power to serve as drop-off points.
Bill Payment via Co-operative Bank M-BankingEdit
- If you are a Co-operative Bank customer, your mobile phone is now an electricity bill payment point.
- To use the service, one must be registered with the bank for M-Banking service and also one must have registered their Kenya Power account number with the bank.
PAy via the Postal Corporation of KenyaEdit
- You can also pay your bill in any of the over 200 post offices countrywide.

- Bill from the previous month. (not mandatory as long as you know the meter number)

Instructions
- You are strongly encouraged by KPLC to use the paybill numbers 888888 and 888880 for postpaid and prepaid bill payments respectively.

Need for the Document
- You need to pay your electrical bill to avoid disconnection form the electrical grid.
- The payment option of Electricity bill in Kenya is available for both postpaid and prepaid meters in Kenya and is available on the Safaricom and Airtel networks in Kenya.

Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate.

- The E-bill SMS service allows you to query your electricity account balance and bill due date using your mobile phone. Follow these easy steps:
- Open a new SMS message.
- Type the first part of your account number in the message field. For example, if your account number is 998877-01, just type 998877.
- Send this message to 95551.
- In a few seconds you will receive an automatic reply with your account balance details. This service works for Kenyan networks. It is charged at Kshs. 5/- above the normal SMS rates.
- E-bill e-mail Service
- The E-bill e-mail service enables you to check your electricity account balance and bill due date via e-mail. Here are the simple steps to follow:
- Open a new e-mail message.
