Go to the nearest licensed vehicle testing station with the required documents:export certificates, registration documents, de-registration documents, regulatory periodic inspection documents, auction sheets etc. The vehicle must be less than 8 years from the year of first registration. The difference between the year of manufacture and the year of first registration shall be not more than one year.

A Certificate of Road worthiness can only be issued when a vehicle is passed by a licensed vehicle tester, operating from a nominated garage or service station. Radioactive contamination may exist on surfaces or in volumes of material or air. As the radioactive material decays, it releases energy that can be harmful to health depending on the level of exposure. For passengers in a contaminated vehicle, exposure can either be external through the skin or internal by inhaling contaminated air, especially if the air circulation system of the car is contaminated.
Pay the prescribed fees to Kenya Revenue Authority. The cost of obtaining a certificate is not fixed and can depend on the age, type and the condition of the vehicle. You can ask for a quote from a Licensed Vehicle Tester.
Complete the Application for certification of road worthiness form Kenya Bureau of Standards. If an item fails to meet the requirements, the tester will issue a rejection report. You will be given 7 days to repair or replace the rejected items and have those rejected item inspected again. If more than 7 days elapse a full inspection is then required.

Kenya Bureau of Standards offers pre-export inspection of used vehicles to determine conformity to the requirements of the KS 1515:2000 - Kenya Standard Code of Practice for Inspection of Road Vehicles through appointed inspection companies in Japan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and the Republic of South Africa.
This is a mandatory inspection carried out pursuant to the provisions of legal Notice 78 of 15/07/2005 and importers of used vehicles coming from the mentioned countries are required to demonstrate conformity to the standard before shipment.
In order to increase the efficiency of the inspection service KEBS has signed contracts with competent companies to offer the service on KEBS behalf for a period of three years. The purpose of the inspection is to ensure vehicles imported into the country are road worthy and that the country is not used as a dumping ground for unsafe vehicles.
You must have your motor vehicle tested for road worthiness before you register it in your names. If your motor vehicle is used for public transport or is a heavy-load vehicle (excluding buses), you must take it to be tested for road worthiness every year before you renew the motor vehicle license. A bus must be tested for road worthiness every six months.
A Certificate of Road worthiness is required when a vehicle is sold, if a used vehicle is to be re-registered or, in some cases to clear a Vehicle Defect. It is only issued by a licensed vehicle tester.
It is your responsibility as the owner of a vehicle to have your vehicle tested. You can take it to a private or public vehicle testing station.
