1. An application to be recognized as a Medical or Dental Sub-Specialist in a particular discipline shall be made to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) offices. Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC) Office Location & Contact Details
2. Those eligible should collect and complete the Application for Recognition of Specialist/Sub-Specialty Forms, available at the KMPDC offices or download them via the KMPDC website KMPDC Downloads, (scroll down the page and then click on the “Other Form” option to locate the forms) or directly download them using these Application for Recognition of Specialist/Sub-Specialty Form-VIA and Application for Recognition of Specialist/Sub-Specialty [To be Completed and Signed by a Supervisor]
3. The application shall be accompanied by proof of payment of the application fee of Ksh. 20,000.00.
4. Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed application form, in all respect, for consideration and processing by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC) Office through the following avenues;
   • Via Email Address: Email all application documents and computer-generated and stamped banking slips emailed to training@kmpdc.go.ke, reg.lic@kmpdc.go.ke, and ceo@kmpdc.go.ke
   • Via Post Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, P.O. Box 44893 - 00100, Nairobi, Kenya.
5. Upon receipt of the application, the receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
6. The KMPDC office may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the application shall be rejected.
7. After the document evaluation phase, has been completed satisfactorily, the KMPDC office shall prepare the sub-Specialist Recognition Registration Certificate, which shall indicate the approval scope and limitations and shall be valid indefinite.
8. The time frame for processing the application is within two (02) weeks.
9. While collecting the certificate, the applicants will be required to produce their identity document to be validated by the Council.

• Current Copy of Practice Licence.
• Certified Copy of post-graduate qualification and official transcripts.
• Evidence of completion one-year rotation in a recognized institution for sub-specialist recognition.
• Supportive recommendation from two (2) referees in the relevant specialty.
• Sub-specialty must be on the approved list.
• Proof of payment (direct deposit) of the Application fee of Kshs.20,000.
• Any other documents may be deemed necessary or as may be prescribed by the KMPDC office.

A medical or dental practitioner shall be recognized as a sub-specialist if the medical or dental practitioner:

• Possesses a basic specialist qualification in his or her discipline;
• Has at least six months training; and
• Has at least one year of experience under the supervision of a recognized subspecialist.

• Specialties/Specialist Recognition is usually awarded to medical/ dental practitioners who have acquired Masters of Medicine in various disciplines/specialties that are listed in the list of approved specialties and sub-specialties.
