- To apply for Temporary Vehicle Registration, in Karnataka the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office: link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

- Application in FORM 20, 21, 22, 22 A is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Form 20 and Form21 Form 22
- Application in Form-20 (in duplicate if it is with HP)
- Sales certificate in Form 21 .
- Pollution under control and road worthiness certificate in Form-22 from manufacturer
- Pollution under control and road worthiness certificate in Form-22 A, where body is fabricated
- Valid Insurance Certificate.
- Proof of address (any one of the following): Ration Card / Electoral Roll / LIC Policy / Affidavit sworn by the applicant before an Executive or First Class Judicial
- Design approval copy as applicable
- Original Sales Certificate from the concerned Authorities in Form 21 in the case of Ex_Army Vehicle.
- Customs Clearance Certificate in the case of Imported Vehicles.
- Appropriate Fee as specified in Rule 81 of CMV Rules.
- Tax as prescribed

- Pan card or GIR or Form-60/61 of I.T. Department
- Aadhaar card
- Passport size photos 3 copies.
- Life Time Tax for Non Transport Vehicle.

- Unloaded Weight Certificate for Transport Vehicle.
- Permit sanctioned proceedings for Transport Vehicle.

Instructions

- Apply for temporary registration of a motor vehicle in Form 20 to the Registering Authority in whose jurisdiction the vehicle is or to the dealer dealing in the sale of New Motor Vehicles Recognised by the Transport Commissioner
- Provide copies of Sale Certificate, Insurance Certificate and Road worthiness Certificate
- Pay tax and fee as specified in Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 for temporary registration
- For extension of temporary registration
- You can apply for the extension of the period of temporary registration to the Registering Authority by specifying the reason and period up to which the extension is required.
- You can apply for the extension of the temporary registration for maximum two times.
- In case you have already applied for extension once and are again applying for extension, you will have to pay the penalty as per Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

Required Information
- Valid Vehicle Number , Chassis Number and Mobile Number for OTP
- Valid details about payment modes like Internet banking, Debit/Credit Card etc details for making payments
- Additional documentary evidence for transport vehicle
- Vehicle is not covered by any permit issued by any transport authority
- Sum of money agreed upon to be paid by the holder of the permit, if any, is not pending recovery
- Evidence of payment of tax on passengers and goods under any law for the time being in force up to the date of application for no objection certificate
Need for the Document
- All the vehicles need to be registered as per the Motor Vehicle Act,1988. The vehicles are provided with unique registration number. Once the vehicle is registered, a certificate is issued to the owner. The registration certificate is used as a proof for authorized owner of the vehicle.
- Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
- Since the registration process is long therefore on buying the new vehicle the owner is provided with temporary registration number due to his expectations (Auspicious day, festival, Body fabrication etc…)which is valid for one month from date of sale and during the said period the owner himself should get his vehicle permanently registered with RTO concerned.
- When a bike owned by a individual sold to another person – the name transfer has to be made with the authorities concerned
- One who wishes to sell his or her vehicle should make sure that the proper name transfer in RC is carried out
- FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle registered
