- To apply for Vehicle Fitness certificate (FC) in Karnataka the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to.

- Completed Application Form for FC:
- Form KMV 20 (collect from RTO Office).
- Form 38 for Transport Vehicles: Form 38 link
- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
- The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for this procedure
- Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices
- The applicant should bring in their vehicle for inspection.
- Submit the completed application forms along with documents in the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
- Inspection of vehicle for correctness as per norms will be carried out to issue FC

- To apply for vehicle fitness certificate (FC), the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
- In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
- The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
- Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
- The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
- Please follow the steps to complete the application.

- Ration Card / Aadhaar Card / Electoral Roll / LIC Policy / Passport / Payslip issued - Govt. Office (or) a Local Body

- Affidavit Sworn by the applicant before an Executive (or) a First Class Judicial Magistrate (or) Notary Public
- Registration Certificate
- Insurance Certificate
- Pollution under control certificate
- Valid tax
- Passport size photo-2
- Permit if applicable
- Trip sheet for the past 3 months
- Permit if covered

Eligibility
- Vehicle should be produced for inspection
- You should be the owner of the vehicle

Validity
- In case of Private vehicles the fitness certificates is valid for 13 years and there after renewed at every 5 years
- In case of Transport Vehicles the fitness certificate is issued for a new vehicle for 2 years and subsequently renewed every year

Required Information
- Name of the applicant(s) in full
- Address
- Registration mark and year of manufacture and date of registration of the motor vehicle.
- Engine number of the motor vehicle
- Chassis number of the motor vehicle
- Valid Mobile Number for OTP
- Valid details about payment modes like Internet banking, Debit/Credit Card etc details for making payments
Need for the Document
- The registration of vehicle is treated as valid only if the vehicle has valid certificate of fitness. Fitness certificate for a vehicle is required to renew the current status of the vehicle
- The fitness is checked and certified by the Registering Authority
- Fitness certificate is issued to check the pollution caused by the emission of smoke from the vehicles, to maintain the vehicle in proper condition and to avoid accidents
- Fitness Certificate is an official document certifying that the holder’s vehicle is fit to drive at public places
- An applicant should apply for renewal of his vehicle Fitness Certificate within 30 days from the date of expiry of its validity
- RTO officials has the right to decide upon the issue of certificate
- It is advisable to go to the Regional Transport Officer / State Transport Authority between 9:00am to 5:00pm
