Jamaica - Report a Crime


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. If you have witnessed a crime in Jamaica, you can report the crime to the nearest police to bring the lawbreaker to justice, you can find police station contacts via this link:Link
  2. You can report a crime in several ways:
    • For emergency case please contact the police through emergency number 119 and ask for police assistance
    • You can also go to the nearest police station and report the crime in person at the front desk
    • If you wish to hide your identity you can also report a crime anonymously by contacting the Crimestoppers by calling 311
  3. Upon contacting the police, they will act promptly on your report and they can offer further assistance and guidance to you
  4. You can give a witness statement detailing how the crime you witnessed occurred, the statement will be written by a police officer and at the end of the statement, it will be read to you or you will read it to confirm if it is correct and sign it
  5. Then the police officer taking your statement will provide you with his or her rank and number
  6. The police force will then conduct an investigation of the crime and gather relevant evidence, they may ask you to go to the area where the offense happened and assist to identify the offender. They may also ask you to look at photographs or attend an identification parade to single out the offender
  7. Upon charging the offender, the police will keep you informed and provide all the necessary support that you may require in connection with the crime

  • You don’t require any special documents to report a crime but, in some cases, you may be required to provide identification documents i.e, Driver’s License, Voters Card, ID, or Passport
