Jamaica - Permanent Residence


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply a Permanent Residency (PR) in Jamaica, you should visit the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) office. You can view PICA’s location map and contact details via this link:Link
  2. Obtain the application form for PR at PICA’s office and fill it correctly, then write a letter requesting for the PR. The letter should be addressed to The Chief Executive OfficerPassport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency 25 Constant Spring Road, Kingston 10.
  3. Then obtain two recommendation letters for two reputable referees who are nationals of Jamaica. Note that this letter should be addressed to the chief executive officer in (2) above
  4. Gather and prepare all the required supporting documents for the PR application and attach them in a single fill including all the letters and the application form.
  5. Go to PICA’s office and pay the application fee of $100000 at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt. Note that the application fee is Non-Refundable.
  6. Submit the complete application file including the payment receipt to the PICA’s officer at the service desk of the unit in charge of residency status application to be verified.
  7. The official will verify if your application is correct and confirm that you have paid the application fees as required.
  8. If the application is complete, the official issue you an acknowledgment receipt indicating your application details and you will be scheduled for an interview regarding your application for the Permanent Residency.
  9. On the Scheduled date for the interview, visit the PICA’s office and submit the acknowledgement receipt issued to you in your previous visit for confirmation of the interview by the PICA.s official at the service desk.
  10. You will then be directed to attend the interview at the PICA’s Investigation and Surveillance Unit, and the results will be forward to the relevant authority for the approval and processing.
  11. Then your application will be reviewed and if it deemed correct to be issued the PR, the PR certificate will be processed and issued to you. It normally take’s tree to six months to complete process.




Required Documents

  • Valid National passport (if the applicant is not from the Commonwealth, then a valid entry visa must be present in the passport to apply)
  • Evidence of financial status and means of support e.g. Particulars of pension, bank account, property owned and business investments
  • Birth Certificate of Applicant original
  • Birth Certificate of Jamaican spouse if married to a Jamaican
  • Marital Status Marriage Certificate particulars of spouse, children and other dependents
  • Local Medical Certificate of Good Health
  • Police Certificate from the state from which you are migrating and one from Jamaica if living in the Island for six months or more
  • Two identical passport size photographs certified by Justice of the Peace
  • Letter stating reasons for seeking permanent residence in Jamaica
  • Letters of recommendations from two references in Jamaica
  • Complete an Extension of Stay form
  • Additional requirements:
    • Show evidence that that his/her primary place of residence will be Jamaica
    • Be residing in Jamaica for a minimum of three (3) years if he/she is the holder of a work permit
    • Have an entry visa.


Note: Your documents must be original and where applicable not older that six (6) months

Eligibility

Non-Citizens of Jamaica may apply for permanent residence if:

  • You have been working in Jamaica for three years or more
  • You are married to a Jamaican national
  • You no longer work in your home country and desires to live in Jamaica



Fees

  • Permanent Residence Application: JM$100,000.00



Validity

  • The PR is valid for the period stated on the certificate

  • Previous holders of Unconditional Landing status by virtue of marriage to a Jamaican
