Jamaica - Obtain police clearance certificate


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for the police clearance certificate (Criminal Clearance Certificate or A Police Record), you should visit the Technical Services Division (Criminal Records Office) at this address: 34 Duke Street, Kingston. under the Ministry of National Security (MNS) or Submit your application to the Police Station (St. James) and Area 2 Police Headquarters, Pompano Bay (St. Mary) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays still under the Ministry of National Security.   2. Obtain the application form from any of the offices mentioned above and fill it clearly stating the purpose of applying for the certificate
  3. Then If you have a Tax Registration Number (TRN) visit any Tax office and pay the application fee of the certificate and obtain the payment receipt and if you don’t have a TRN pay the application fee at the Jamaica Constabulary Force Finance Branch, Ground Floor, NCB North Tower, 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5
  4. Obtain all the required supporting documents and attach them in a single file including the payment receipt
  5. Then visit any of the offices in step one above to submit the complete application
  6. Your application will be verified and processed according to the application service you applied for, as explained in the “Fees” section below. Note that next day service is only available at the Technical Services Division (Criminal Records Office) at this address: 34 Duke Street, Kingston.
  7. Once availed for collection, visit the office where you submit the application to collect the certificate in person and if you are unable to collect the certificate by yourself, send a representative to collect the certificate on your behalf. The delegate must provide a letter of authorization and ID


Application form abroad

  1. Consult with the Jamaican consulate in your location if they provide the application form or if you can obtain it form their website. If yes obtain the application form and fill it correctly. Alternatively, you can write a cover letter addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police requesting the certificate clearly stating the purpose of the use of the certificate
  2. Prepare all the required documents and attach them to the application form in a single file including an international money order drawn in the amount equivalent to the Jamaican processing fees and made payable to the Commissioner of Police.
  3. Mail the complete application the Technical Services Division (Criminal Records Office) via this address:

  4. The application will be processed and the certificate will be mailed to you


Application via a Proxy

  • If you are not able to apply by yourself, select a representative to submit the complete application on your behalf. The said representative should present an authorization letter and his/her identification letter when submitting the application


Required Documents

Application in Jamaica

  • Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN)
  • Two passport-sized photographs (should not be certified or embossed)
  • Valid identification document either a Passport, a National Identification Card or a Driver’s License
  • If the police record is for overseas or for travelling purposes, a valid passport must be presented
  • Payment receipt


Application form abroad

  • Cover letter, addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police and signed by the applicant, requesting the Certificate and stating the reason the Police Certificate is needed, e.g., for a work permit or permanent residence application etc.
  • A full set of fingerprints which should be taken by the authorized police department in the country in which one currently resides. The set of fingerprints must be stamped and signed by an authorized individual in the police department or any other authorized Agency.
  • A certified copy of the applicant’s valid passport bio-data page. The certification should be done at the nearest Jamaican Embassy, High Commission, Consulate General or Honorary Consulate. If this is not possible, then a Notary Public may be used.
  • Two recent passport size photographs which must not be signed or sealed.
  • An International Money Order in either United States Dollars (U$). This should be drawn in the amount equivalent to the Jamaican processing fees and made payable to the Commissioner of Police

All representatives must submit an authorization letter and a valid identification document '

  • JA$6,000.00: Express Service for 5 working days
  • JA$8,000.00: Next Day Service is available only at 34 Duke Street
