Jamaica - Barber and Hairdresser Licence


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for the Barber and Hairdresser License, you should submit your completed application to the: Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC). you can view the KSAMC office location and contact details via this link: Link
  2. You must first obtain a health certificate issued by a medical Officer (Public Health), at a fee, dated no longer than two weeks prior to your application date.
  3. Then obtain the application form for the licenses in person form the KSAMC office or download the forms from the KSAMC website: Link under “Barbering/Hairdresser” or download the forms directly via this link: Link (beauty salon) Link (Barbershop)
  4. Prepare all the required documents and attach them to the application form then go to the KSAMC with the completed application
  5. At the KSAMC office, pay the application fee for processing your application and submit the application to an KSAMC official at the service desk including the payment receipt
  6. The application will be check if it has all the requirements and then approved for processing
  7. Once processed the KSAMC will contact you to collect the license




Required Documents

  • Complete application form
  • Health certificate
  • Three passport size photographs stamped and signed by a Justice of the Peace (JP)
  • A certified copy of the relevant certificate or diploma by a professional training institution
  • Tax registration number (TRN)
  • Payment receipt


For Trainees:

  • Letter from a Justice of Peace
  • Letter from a licensed practitioner that the person will be employed as a trainee.
  • Satisfies the local board that he is enrolled as a student in a professional training institution and will complete his/her training within 12 months of the granting of the license.

  • Barbers License: $2,500.00
  • Trainee License: $ 500.00
  • Health Certificate: $ 500.00
  • Hairdressers: $3,000.00
  • Cosmetic license: $3000
  • Beauty therapist: $3500




Validity

  • Each license has an expiry date of one year and from the date of issue.
