Apply In-Person
- To apply for citizenship by naturalization, you should visit the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) if you are in Jamaica. You can view PICA’s location map and contacts via this link: Link
- Obtain the application form N1 in Person at PICA head office or other offices, Jamaica printing services 77 Duke Street or you can download the application from online through PICA’s website: Link (Naturalization of Alien or British Protected Application Form Naturalization of Alien or British Protected Application Form) or directly via this link: Link
- Read and complete the form carefully, then sign it in the presence of a Justice of the Peace official, a Notary Public or someone authorized to administer oaths and then the application should be sponsored by four references. Note: The sponsors should be Jamaican by birth and should not be civil servants, relatives, lawyers or agents of the applicant.
- Have your intention to apply for the naturalization be published in a daily newspaper as per the directions provided at the end of the application form. Note: that this notice should be published on two separate occasions at least one week apart and should be submitted along with the application.
- Then submit the application form, newspaper notice and the rest of the required supporting documents to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) Corporate office, 8 Waterloo Road, Kingston 10.
- Upon submitting your application, pay a non-refundable processing fee of JMD$50.000 at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt. Note that payment will only be accepted in Jamaican dollars.
- Your application will be processed in approximately 24 months after which a Certificate of Naturalization will be granted.
- Upon approval, you are required to have the certificate endorsed at the Stamp Office at an additional cost of $JMD1000.00.
- Thereafter, the Oath of Allegiance will be administered and you will be sworn in as a citizen of Jamaica.

- Work Permit card or Work Permit Exemption Certificate
- Evidence of Community activities in which you may be involved e.g. Service Club, etc.
- Two passport-sized photographs certified by a Justice of the Peace (The applicant’s name along with the name, number and signature of the certifying officer and the certification date not older than 6 months should be included). No embossed seal.
- Tax Compliance Certificate (personal and business). If applicant/spouse operates a wholesale income Tax filing is required.
- Verification of income (e.g. Last 3 pay slips, company financial statements, pension statement, employment letter. These should not be older than 6 months).
- Recent Bank Statement (Should not be older than 6 months).

Eligibility
- Alien individuals who are over eighteen years of age and have lived in Jamaica for a period of five on aggregate years and should be of good character.

Instructions
The two passport size photos should be taken according to PICA’s requirements:
- Photographs should be taken in colour with a matte/dull finish, against a plain background
- Applicants of light complexion should avoid wearing white clothing and should have photographs taken against a pastel shaded background
- Applicants of dark complexion should wear coloured clothing and photographs should be taken against a white background.
- Applicants with grey or white hair should have their photograph taken against a pale blue or pastel background
- There must be no other person or object in the photograph
- There should be no background shadows
- A full frontal pose is required
- There should be no creases or ink marks on the photograph
- Exposed shoulders and chest must be avoided
- Bright coloured clothing is not recommended
- Eye glasses should not have tinted lenses
- Heavy (thick) frames should be avoided
- Headgear is permitted ONLY for religious purposes. Facial features including the outline of the face from the bottom of the chin to top of the forehead must me clearly shown
- Photographs submitted with an application become the property of the Government of Jamaica
- No embossed sea
