Isle Of Man - Register a Still-birth


Procedure

Go to the Douglas or Peel Civil Registry to register a still-birth or use the registration service operated by Castletown Commissioners at the Civic Centre or Ramsey Town Commissioners at Ramsey Town Hall.





Required Documents

  • Medical Certificate as to still-birth issued by the doctor or midwife
  • Birth certificates for each parent whose details will be entered in the Register of Still-births and change of name documentation (if applicable)
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Valid photographic ID for each parent whose details will be entered in the Register of Still-births (e.g. passport, driving licence, etc.)

Eligibility

Who can register a still-birth?
  • If the parents are married then either parent can register the birth.
  • If the parents are not married and the father's details are to be entered in the Register of Births, both parents should sign the register together.
  • If the father is unable to attend the office with the mother but his details are to be entered in the Register of Still-births, he can make a statutory declaration acknowledging he is the parent of the child. The mother should give this statutory declaration to the Registrar.
  • If the mother is unable to attend the office with the father, she can make a statutory declaration acknowledging the father's paternity. The father should give this statutory declaration to the Registrar.

  • date and place of birth (the time of the birth will also be recorded if you will register more than one child)
  • forename(s) and surname
  • sex
Father's details
  • forename/s and surname
  • place of birth
  • occupation (if the parent is not currently employed outside the home, the most recently held previous occupation should be given) Note: Unemployed should not be entered in the Register of Births.
  • usual address
Mother's details
  • forename/s and surname, including maiden surname (if applicable)
  • previously used surname. (If married more than once, the surname entered would be from the most recent marriage)
  • place of birth
  • occupation (If a parent is not currently employed outside the home, the most recently held previous occupation should be given.)
  • usual address

Following are the procedures on how to register a still-birth in the Isle of Man. A still-born child is a child born after the 24th week of pregnancy who did not breathe or show any other signs of life at birth.
